In the second quarter of the Bears’ game against the Atlanta Falcons at Soldier Field, quarterback Justin Fields made everyone hold their breath by dropping back to pass. This happened just hours before the Carolina Panthers formally awarded the Bears the first selection in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Bud Dupree, a linebacker for the Falcons, unblocked Fields from the right side and had him dead to rights for a sack that would have ended the drive on third-and-eight. Fields took a step forward and dismissed Dupree. David Onyemate, a defensive tackle, grabbed him by the leg as he attempted to get out of the pocket. Fields managed to escape and quickly outpace Calais Campbell, converting a drive-killing play into a 13-yard gain.
The play provided security. Fields raced out of bounds following the gain, getting both Eddie Jackson and Jaquan Brisker excited.
“The sorcerer. You have magical abilities! “I told him exactly those things,” Jackson declared following the Bears’ convincing 37-17 victory at Soldier Field. “You are a magician, bro. Brother, you are a wizard. You now go by that name. It’s absurd.
Fields wrote one of his most complete games on a day that sealed the difficult summer decision that faces Bears general manager Ryan Poles. As the clock was running out, Bears supporters chanted, “We Want Fields!”
“Justin is what I want.” Everybody wants Justin. Come on, let’s go!” Following the victory, Brisker stated in the locker room. “That person is our guy. That guy is undoubtedly a leader and a playmaker. It’s the kind of man we like. It’s everything he’s got. Five tackles were broken by him. Man, I have no idea. He really is incredible. You cannot overlook a man of such calibre.
Fields’ first play of the day was a 32-yard pass along the right sideline to DJ Moore. He capped off the Bears’ opening drive with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Moore in the back corner of the end zone via a frozen rope.
Fields’ initial segment His performance on Sunday was perhaps the second best half of football he has ever played in a Bears shirt, only eclipsed by the first half versus the Broncos, in which he only failed once on a Hail Mary try.
Fields added 45 yards and a touchdown on the ground to end the game 20 for 32 for 268 yards and one touchdown. It wasn’t faultless. A few shots were missed, and some trigger pulls were made too late. That is what will occur.
