An aura surrounds the Pittsburgh Steelers. They play tough, hard-nosed football, and the blue-collar community loves them for it. It is as much a part of the franchise’s history as the black and gold jerseys that supporters wear on game days. For many years, it has shaped the organization.

The Steelers are more than just a football team; they are a doorway to an era in NFL history when physicality was valued and the league was chastised for being too soft by its own quarterback. Because other teams were unable to defeat Pittsburgh in the current setup, the team forced changes to the NFL rules.

The NFL has attempted to legislate the Steelers Way out of football from Mel Blount to James Harrison, and one Steelers legend believes they may have finally been successful.

Ben Roethlisberger, the former quarterback for the Steelers, waxed lyrical about the team’s recent heyday on Monday during the Footbahlin podcast. He remembered a time, not too far in the past, when the Steelers led the league by a wide margin. In 46 episodes of his podcast, Roethlisberger, who has shared some astute observations, delivered some harsh words that Steeler Nation desperately needed to hear.
