The quarterback position is at the top of the 2024 NFL Draft class, and where they fall could have a cascading effect on other clubs across the league moving into next season. In the latest CBS Sports 2024 NFL mock draft, the Chicago Bears select USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the No. 1 choice and trade current starting Justin Fields to the Las Vegas Raiders for a pair of Day 2 draft picks.
Both parties would benefit from the trade, especially if the Bears change their coaching staff in the offseason. Chicago’s new decision-makers would be able to hand-pick their own franchise quarterback while adding draft cash to continue rebuilding the club, while the Raiders would acquire a high-upside quarterback with playmaking skills, something they currently lack.
The Bears aren’t the only team in this forecast to replace their existing quarterback by picking his replacement, as the New York Giants take LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels with the No. 6 pick.
Despite Daniels Jones’ recent contract extension, his mediocre play before to suffering a torn ACL earlier this season could leave the Giants open to replacing him if a stud prospect like Daniels is available. Only two other quarterbacks make the cut in this mock draft: Drake Maye of North Carolina goes No. 2 to the New England Patriots and Bo Nix of Oregon gets No. 20 to the Minnesota Vikings.
