A handful of the Vols’ most urgent requirements have already been taken care of by Tennessee coach Josh Heupel’s staff via the NCAA transfer site. Four transfers have committed to them in the last week, and two of them landed in Knoxville this week to start team practices.
However, it’s likely that Tennessee will continue to offer further support through the transfer site in the days and weeks to come. Since the transfer portal is still active through January 2, the Vols and other teams across the nation anticipate continuing to go through the available transfers and seek some of them. Roster management has become an almost year-round activity.
Heupel made it apparent that the Vols will be searching the transfer portal for additional players they might want in the coming days at his Early Signing Day press conference on Wednesday afternoon. Heupel also stated that Tennessee was still in talks with some of the players who were already on the portal. The following day, Tulane wide receiver Chris Brazzell—a four-star transfer according to 247Sports—committed to Tennessee.
And while though the Vols have already made significant progress with the inclusion of their four transfer pledges, they still need further assistance for the upcoming campaign.
Heupel stated on Wednesday, “I mean, some of those guys make quick decisions during the recruiting process.” Some of the guys you’ve been in contact with, who are already on the portal and might decide to come for a visit in January, or who are getting close to making a decision, don’t have it completed by the time I’m standing in front of you today.
