Will Jared Goff be Rams' starter? McVay vows to evaluate QB - Los Angeles Times

Jared Goff Shockingly Gets Suspension Notice For Allegedly Involving In himself in a situation whereby he has been on hold.

The Lions still consider Jared Goff to be a top financial priority, but the franchise quarterback is not under contract at this time. Speaking on Thursday regarding the state of contract negotiations, general manager Brad Holmes expressed optimism that a deal will be struck.

During an interview on WXYT-FM, Holmes stated, “First and foremost, he’s earned an extension” (via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press). “It’s significant, it’s our top priority, and both parties are putting in a ton of effort, but these things just take time.”

Goff stated last month that discussions about an extension are still going on. Right tackle Penei Sewell and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown were inked to multi-year contracts by Detroit after the two players developed massive deals. However, there hasn’t been a Goff deal, and a recent report on that front said that negotiations for a contract between the team and the player are not close. Although Holmes acknowledged that a Goff deal would have been nice to have by now, he stressed that the associated costs have been planned for.

“We’ve been preparing for a while—the whole budgeting and preparation and all that kind of goes into it,” Holmes remarked. And, you know, in an ideal world, we would have finished all three of them quickly, but these things just take time, particularly in the quarterback market. However, I am confident that it will be completed.
