Jake Rogers Commits Suicide And Left A Note That Baddoo is Maeda’s temporary replacement on the roster. The 25-year-old’s campaign was a breakthrough.
After outfielder Mark Canha missed several games due to illness, the Detroit Tigers placed right-handed starter Kenta Maeda (viral illness) on the 15-day injured list on Saturday, retroactive to Wednesday, and recalled outfielder Akil Baddoo.
Maeda appears to be the latest to contract the virus that has been plaguing the team and staff for the past week or so. Maeda’s most recent start, on Tuesday against the Cleveland Guardians, ended early after the veteran pitcher gave up three walks, five hits, and seven runs in just two innings.
Right-hander Kenta Maeda has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Tigers due to a viral infection. In a matching move, outfielder Akil Baddoo was called up from Triple-A Toledo; however, according to Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press, right-hander Matt Manning will be called up to the majors on Monday to replace Maeda in the rotation.
Maeda’s time in Detroit has not gone well; in his thirty-two and three innings of work throughout his seven starts this season, he has a 6.75 ERA. Out of those seven starts, three of them have caused the most damage, with the veteran getting hit for a total of 19 runs (18 earned) in just eight innings of work. He will now have the chance to recuperate and start over on the injured list as he gets ready to try to salvage his season. Maeda could theoretically be back in action in less than two weeks because his placement on the shelf is retroactive to May 8. Nevertheless, no estimated date of his return has been provided.
