He not only kept the kicking game in check, but he also swiftly erased the agonizing conclusion of Brett Maher’s second tour of duty in Dallas.
It’s unlikely that Aubrey will face significant challenge for his position come autumn. Until he contracts Maher’s shanks, that is.
However, that seems improbable given his USFL resume and his debut season in the NFL.
Josh Butler, a former safety for the Michigan Panthers and graduate of Michigan State, was also signed by the Cowboys last season.
In 2023, Butler did not see any action. However, this summer he should have an opportunity to contend for a camp slot.
Therefore, Luis Perez, who leads the UFL in passing yards, and A.J. McCarron, who leads the league in touchdown passes, are not being considered.
Not to add, Perez isn’t a quarterback of NFL caliber. How many video games and YouTube videos he played doesn’t matter to me.
With the Arlington Renegades, he plays football only a few blocks down the road, so this is already the closest Perez will ever go to playing inside AT&T Stadium.
The Cowboys don’t intend to expand their already congested running back room either.
Not that there’s much to consider at that UFL position. The top rusher in that conference is only averaging 58 yards each contest.
