David Pastrnak’s seat was very hot before he got the TD Garden crowd to jump out of their seats on Saturday night.
Jim Montgomery, the coach of the Boston Bruins, chastised the ten-year NHL veteran and two-time All-Star after he played a scoreless game in Game 6, which was also Boston’s second straight loss in the series.
“Your best players need to be your best players this time of year,” Montgomery stated. “They need to make some huge plays at crucial times, and I think they’ve put forth a great effort. In the series, I believe Marchand has done that. Pasta must take the lead.”
Pastrnak stepped up when the Bruins needed him most, as they defeated the Maple Leafs 2–1 to move on to the second round.
With 1:54 remaining in overtime, Pastrnak, locked in a close battle with the Maple Leafs that saw both teams go two full periods without a goal scored, skated past their defense and displayed some impressive stick work, scoring on a backhand shot after an assist from Hampus Lindholm to win the game and the series for Boston.
