I published several pieces here at the beginning of this offseason about the Cubs and the more well-known free agents.
I decided to shift the focus of this series to several bullpen pitchers who could aid the Cubs, who could have used some of that late in the 2023 season, now that the Winter Meetings are done and none of those players have signed yet.
To be honest, Jordan Hicks might be among the greatest available free-agent deals. The Cardinals dealt away a number of pending free agents, including Hicks, in an effort to retool, rebuild, or whatever term you want to use following their 2023 first-half collapse.

Hicks’ walk rate increased during his brief stay in Toronto, but his K rate decreased as well. His overall velocity seems to be rather good.

Hicks is only 27 years old, seems healthy, and has the ability to close if necessary. What’s not to enjoy?
Personally, I’d rank a player like him towards the top of the desire list, and I haven’t noticed any signs that the Cubs are interested. You could certainly offer him a three-year contract at his age. In 2023, he earned $1,837,500.
Six months, eighteen million. Who refuses?
