Through the 2001 induction, players had the opportunity to decide; nevertheless, the hall made the final decision before the 2002 voting. The modification happened in response to rumours from 1999 that stated Tampa Bay would pay Wade Boggs, who had just retired, provided his plaque featured the Devil Rays’ emblem. Boggs’ plaque features a Boston Red Sox emblem, and he was inducted in 2005.
A representative for Hall, Jon Shestakofsky, stated on Wednesday, “We have not yet received the letter, but we plan to speak with Andre.”
Dawson desires to join the Cubs.
The Baseball Writers’ Association of America announced three weeks after Dawson was chosen in 2010 that the hall had opted to include an Expos cap on the plaque.
In a statement released by the hall at the time, Dawson said, “I respect the Hall of Fame’s decision to put an Expos logo on my cap, and I understand their responsibility to make sure the logo represents the greatest impact in my career.” “The supporters of the Cubs, as well as those in Montreal, Boston, and South Florida, where I currently reside, will always hold a special place in my heart. I owe them so much for helping to make my time in Chicago unforgettable. The most significant thing, though, is that I now know that I have been inducted into the Hall of Fame, which is the greatest honour imaginable.”
But Dawson told Chicago’s WMVP-AM on the day the hall made its announcement, “I’m disappointed,” and “I can proudly say that because Chicago was my preference.”
Jeff Idelson, the president of Hall at the time, stated, “You want the logo to represent where this guy made his greatest impact,” while making the decision. He had an influence on Montreal. He had an influence in Chicago and, to a lesser degree, in Boston and Florida, but it’s more important to get together and decide as a group.”
