A stunning transaction that brought Matthew Stafford to Los Angeles and Jared Goff to Detroit was agreed to by the Lions and Rams in 2021.

With three years without a winning record under his belt, Goff took over a squad with low expectations. Still, Goff can now reflect on that transaction and be happy with the outcome.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Goff stated on the Trading Cards podcast, “In hindsight, (being traded to Detroit) was the greatest thing that ever happened to me, for my career and my development as a human.”

The club soon matured following a difficult first season with the Lions, in which they won just three games. The following two seasons demonstrated genuine promise for a promising future. In 2022, the Lions finished second in the NFC North with a 9-8 record; same year, Goff was selected for his third Pro Bowl. The Lions then made an even stronger comeback in 2023.

Goff was prepared to take on the challenge that awaited him, despite what others may have thought of him upon his arrival in Detroit.
