Regarding their open defensive coordinator post, the New York Giants allegedly conducted a second interview with Dennard Wilson, the defensive backs coach for the Baltimore Ravens, on Saturday.
Adam Schefter reports that Wilson conducted three interviews on the Ravens’ off-day prior to Sunday’s AFC Championship Game vs the Kansas City Chiefs. The Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Rams also interviewed him. It appears that he had never interviewed for the Rams or Titans before.
Since 2008, Wilson, 41, has worked as a coach or scout in the National Football League. Having coached defensive backs for the Philadelphia Eagles for two seasons, this is his first season with the Ravens.
Wilson formerly served as the New York Jets’ defensive backs coach from 2017 to 2020.
Wilson has never served as coordinator of defences. Some believed that Wilson should have been granted the position by the Eagles during the previous offseason, after they hired and later fired Sean DeSai.
Dennard Wilson, the defensive backs coach for the Baltimore Ravens, is reportedly drawing greater interest during the NFL hiring process. According to reports, Wilson will have an interview with the Los Angeles Rams to fill the role of defensive coordinator. He would be interviewing for this team for the third time. The New York Giants will also be interviewing Wilson again.
Wilson playing for the Ravens for another season is unthinkable. At every stop in his career, he has more than meritedly advanced athletes to the next level in the NFL. The most recent is safety Kyle Hamilton, who made the first team All-Pro in his second season and is currently perhaps the finest safety in the league. However, when their team keeps winning in the postseason, coaches have a difficult time finding new hires because other NFL clubs are eager to start their rosters and staffs as soon as possible. The majority of NFL Head Coaching positions have been filled, which has allowed the Ravens to retain both of their coordinators on staff—for the time being, anyway.
Brendan Daly, the linebackers coach for the Chiefs, is a candidate to be the Giants’ defensive coordinator.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Daly has had interviews with the Giants for the job. Following the regular season, Wink Martindale was let go by the Giants.
Before taking over as linebackers coach in 2022, Daly spent three years coaching the Chiefs defensive line. Over the course of the last ten years, he has been a part of five Super Bowl winners as an assistant with the Patriots from 2014 to 2018. For a handful of those years, Daly worked with Giants head coach Brian Daboll on the Patriots staff.
