Mississippi State’s pursuit of elite quarterback prospects was evident after Coach Jeff Lebby was hired. The Bulldogs received a major boost earlier today when Michael Van Buren, a four-star signal caller rated by 247Sports Composite, declared his commitment to Mississippi State.
“With the new leadership and Coach Lebby, I felt it was the best place for me,” Van Buren stated. He is one of the guys that develops quarterbacks here, and he has a track record of producing huge numbers with his offense. All of that piqued my interest greatly. It was crucial to go down there and get to know everyone in the building. Meeting with Coach Lebby and Coach (Matt) Holecek to discuss my daily development is the most important thing. I am aware that there will be guys accompanying me, and that is also crucial.”
Van Buren quickly became friends with a number of the Mississippi State guests, among them a group of gifted wide receivers who will be attending Starkville for their collegiate careers. The skill players in that group will have the opportunity to grow together.

“It was great to meet all of those guys and just see where their recruitment is at,” Van Buren said. “I’m trying to recruit all of those guys now that I’m confined. For Coach Lebby, that means a lot. I chose to make the announcement today primarily for that reason.”
