Goodnews: Mike Zimmer Returns To Dallas Cowboys As DC

The Dallas Cowboys may reassign this NFL coach to the position of defensive coordinator. Mike Zimmer, the former head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, is allegedly open to returning to Dallas.

Given his connections to the Cowboys and his past interactions with Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy, this could make sense. Before taking over the Vikings, Mike Zimmer played 13 seasons in Dallas, which is where the rumours about him are starting to heat up.

But just because the relationship ended 17 years ago doesn’t mean it’s ended. Dallas was able to rejoin with Zimmer after Dan Quinn chose to join the Washington Commanders as head coach. Ron Rivera still has an interview scheduled for next week while McCarthy searches for a replacement as defensive coordinator. All of these prospects are intriguing for Dallas, especially since Joe Whitt is still on their radar.

Not only has Rivera, a seasoned professional, demonstrated his abilities, but Zimmer has too. Dallas is free to search for the candidate for a longer period of time than usual. Jerry Jones did that he wants to put in “all the work” in getting ready for the upcoming season. They could throw everything at Zimmer, who won 56% of his games during his eight seasons in Minnesota.

There is no denying Zimmer’s connection to the Cowboys; in 1995, he served as a member of the coaching staff during the team’s final Super Bowl appearance. But he was only coaching defensive backs at the time. After making quick progress, he was given the position of defensive coordinator. Zimmer continued to play as DC even after Bill Parcells joined in 2003.
