After spending the last two seasons on loan in England, where FC Barcelona paid a portion of his wages, Clément Lenglet has returned from his loan to Aston Villa. However, FC Barcelona is not interested in keeping the high-paid French defender, who has a contract that expires in 2026.
Barça is hoping that someone will take him and possibly cover the transfer costs. Enter Saudi Arabia, where top clubs are paying players outrageous salaries and handsome transfer fees to players who are leaving Europe.
There have apparently been two approaches from Saudi teams, and Barcelona would be happy to let Lenglet go. The defender is unwilling to join a league that is still far behind in terms of quality, even though it has recently gained more recognition, and instead stay in one of Europe’s top leagues.
Lenglet is said to have turned down an offer from Al Nassr from the previous season. Despite his desire to stay with Tottenham Hotspur, he ultimately joined Villa.
It’s believed that Lenglet has received a few offers from the Premier League for this window, and Sevilla might possibly be interested. The issue is that, from the perspective of the Catalans, they would prefer loans where Barcelona would just pay a portion of the salaries.
