good news:Jays trade for Grichuk today in Blue Jays history……..
Pitchers Conner Greene and Dominic Leone were traded by the Blue Jays to the Cardinals in exchange for Randal Grichuk. Greene was a decent prospect who ranked #100 on Baseball Prospectus’ Top 100 Prospect List in 2016. In 2017, Conner struggled to find the strike zone, walking 86 batters while striking out 92. He had a 5.29 ERA in 132.2 innings while playing in New Hampshire. After the season, Conner was DFAed by the Cardinals and went on to play for the Royals, Dodgers, and Orioles.
Before the 2017 campaign, the Jays acquired Leone off of the Diamondbacks via waivers. With a 2.56 ERA in 65 relief appearances, 23 walks, and 81 strikeouts in 70 innings, he performed admirably in our bullpen. Dominic performed worse when playing the Cardinals. In two seasons, he pitched 64.2 innings with a 5.15 ERA, 30 walks, and 72 strikeouts. November 2019 saw his release. He spent two years pitching for the Giants before joining Cleveland in 2020. He pitched in 51 games for the Mets, Angels, and Mariners in 2023, recording a 4.67 ERA.
Grichuk? He hit for four seasons as a Blue Jay.90 home runs and a.289/.461 batting line. It would be easy to characterise him as hot and cold. He
In addition to awarding Randal a five-year, $52 million contract, the Jays made the move happen. Just prior to the 2022 season, he was transferred to the Rockies, who also received prospect Adrian Pinto and Raimel Tapia in exchange for $9.7 million. Tapia was made available. In 2023, Pinto split his time between Dunedin and the Florida Coast League, appearing in 35 games.
Although I had believed that Grichuk may be a good fit in Denver, he didn’t perform much better there, hitting.275/.321/.448 with 27 home runs in 204 games over two seasons. He was dealt to the Angels in July. He is a free agent at the moment.
