Jaylon Johnson: According to a report that first aired on NBC Sports Chicago, his “mind’s definitely on the money” going into free agency

Despite playing out the final year of his rookie deal, Jaylon Johnson made it obvious at the end of the 2023 season that he intended to stay with the Bears. However, it doesn’t seem like Johnson will accept a lower contract from the Bears after a good year in exchange for staying in Chicago.

“My heart is in Chicago, and my mind is right on target,” Johnson said during the Pro Bowl on Saturday to NFL.com. “We’ll see if we can persuade them both to cooperate and complete a task. I’m excited to see what lies ahead.”Johnson was selected by the Bears in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and he immediately established himself as one of the best coverage corners in the league. However, Johnson’s takeaways were not as high as those of the league’s best CBs. In order to force more turnovers, the Bears issued him a challenge before the start of the season.

In 14 games, Johnson recorded a career-high four interceptions in addition to a forced fumble. What’s more amazing is that Johnson accomplished this without regressing in his pass coverage. With at least 100 pass coverage snaps, he led all NFL corners with a 33.3 passer rating allowed when targeted. In the same group, his 50% completion percentage tied for ninth place. His fifth-best 20.2 snaps/rec allowed was When Johnson did surrender a catch, it was unusual, and he mostly controlled the damage. Johnson’s 7.8 yards per reception allowed was good for a tie for tenth place. For the first time in his career, Johnson received Pro Bowl and All-Pro recognition for his accomplishments.

Johnson said, “Now everybody knows I can take the ball away,” according to NFL.com. “So, I feel like there’s really not a box I can’t tick.”

Johnson’s development into a premier cornerback was a major factor in the Bears defense’s tremendous advancement in 2023. He now wants to assist the Bears in completing their rebuild.

Johnson stated in December, “I just couldn’t see myself anywhere else.” It’s simple to declare that you want to leave a place, but after you do, you can realise that this isn’t exactly what you wanted. However, I would answer that I wish to remain here and avoid making that move right now. I sense that we’re constructing

During his year-end press conference, Bears General Manager Ryan Poles made it clear that Johnson will remain a member of the team, saying, “We’ll work through it to get something done.”

It’s unclear if that “something” is a franchise tag or a long-term extension.
