The Wolverines have now won the Big Ten and advanced to the College Football Playoff for the third time in a row. Michigan is one of the greatest college football programmes in the country, having earned the No. 1 rating and only losing one regular season game in the last three seasons.
It’s more difficult to stay at the top than it is to get there, and as supporters of Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State know, the simplest way to stay at the top is to dominate recruiting by bringing in talented four-stars and five-stars to replace players entering the NFL draft.
Michigan is definitely one notch below the top dogs in the 2024 recruiting ratings; as of Dec. 18, the Wolverines’ 2024 class is ranked 19th on 247, 16th on On3, and 13th on Rivals.
Michigan is unlikely to land a five-star recruit in this class, which is likely the main reason they aren’t in the top ten in recruiting. Nonetheless, Michigan has 17 four-star recruits, trailing only Georgia, Oregon, Oklahoma, and LSU.
It will be interesting to see how Michigan jumps up the rankings if Bair and Edokpayi can be secured. Stay tuned to Maize n Brew for the most recent recruiting updates as the Wolverines look to retool after another great season.
