All teams have gaps to be filled, and the Chicago Cubs may consider looking within. Out of all the Cubs prospects, five stand out as potential MLB debutantes in 2024.

Numerous players have piqued the Cubs’ interest, and there are a few they need to be considering. But not every need has to be met by trades or free agency. Even if it’s just temporarily, the Cubs may be able to deploy their prospects to cover gaps on their roster in 2024.

One of baseball’s top farm systems is owned by the Cubs. There is a ton of talent at several spots on their really intriguing list of top prospects. Only Cubs prospects who haven’t yet made their major league debut will be included on this list. Matt Mervis, Pete Crow-Armstrong, and Alexander Canario are among the players who won’t be acknowledged.

The No. 5 prospect for the Cubs is Ben Brown. He is included on the Cubs’ 40-man roster for the 2024 season as well. This implies that Brown might be readily called up to the major league team or used as a fill-in if necessary.

The Philadelphia Phillies selected Brown in the 33rd round of the 2017 MLB draft, out of high school, at the height of 6’6 210. Then in 2022, Brown was traded to the Cubs.

Brown alternated between Triple-A Iowa and Double-A Tennessee. However, after dominating in four outings against Double-A competition, he spent most of his time at AAA. Brown tossed 72 2/3 innings, struck out 100 batters in 22 outings (15 starts) while pitching in Triple-A.

The large right-hander has given up 51 walks in 72 2/3 innings, suggesting that he may have a minor walk problem. Still, that might be resolved with a little more effort. Still, Brown has a great deal of potential.

Right present, the Cubs are deficient in both starters and relievers. If Brown performs well in Spring Training, he might be the fifth starter the Cubs are searching for, but he could also fill a position as a late-inning reliever. With his fastball, Brown can reach the upper 90s, which is exactly what the Cubs’ pitching staff needs. It is reasonable to anticipate seeing him on the mound at Wrigley Field in 2024.
