Earlier today Female Olympic Trainer Stephen Francis Olympic Charged For Sexual Harassment And In their opening game of the season at Southampton, the senior team of Working Athletics Club made a strong start to their Southern Athletics League campaign, ultimately finishing second behind champions Brighton & Hove.
They are currently sixth in their 18-team league after the first game, which is a promising start as they want to improve on their finishing place of seventh from the previous season.
Woking’s ultimate point total during the afternoon was increased by several double wins. The 400-meter hurdles provided a brilliant start to the day for both David Awde and Ian Horlock, who won the A and B races. The men’s hurdle competitions were swept. This happened again in the 110-meter hurdles, where the gifted Kaspars Kazemaks won in his first senior height event in a time of 15.8 seconds. In 16.2 seconds, Harry Findlay was barely behind.
Martin Sunderland won the B race, while David Brighton won the 3,000-meter steeplechase by just over three seconds in a time of 10 minutes 27.4 seconds, just two seconds shy of the club record. This was the other double win on the tack incorporating obstacles.
There were several outstanding performances in the sprints. Rhys Chadwick won the 400 meters easily, finishing only two tenths of a second short of his personal best time in 50.8 seconds. Jake Etherington finished third in the 100 meters with a time just under 11 seconds, and he set a personal best in the 200 meters with a time of 22.1 seconds, finishing just 0.1 seconds behind the winner.
In the field events, George Hopkins won the men’s pole vault with a height of 3.60 meters, while Awde won the B event with a height of 3.40 meters, giving Woking a double victory. Hopkins finished second in the triple jump and third in the javelin, while Roy Chambers finished second in the B event. Hopkins also finished second in the B string long jump, with Findlay occupying the same spot in the A event.
