Done Deal: Doneiko Slaughter contract deal successfully fanalized

As per a report from 247Sports, the most recent player to test the transfer portal will be veteran cornerback Doneiko Slaughter. His name has not been formally entered up until this point.

A single season of eligibility remains for Slaughter due to the NCAA’s COVID-year rule. The seasoned defensive back battled injuries the entire season, sitting out two and playing a limited role for the most of it. 32 tackles, one for a loss, and one sack were his totals at the end of the season. Slaughter ends his tenure at Knoxville with seven passes defensed and one interception.

Slaughter played nickel and safety for a while before committing to a full-time cornerback position. The 6-0, 190-pound defensive back played in over 40 games for the Volunteers and earned 14 career starts for Tennessee. The former Georgia native and three-star prospect hails from Roswell.

It goes without saying that the rosters of Tennessee and almost everyone else are currently in flux. With Slaughter joining Warren Burrell and Brandon Turnage on the transfer portal, a radical change at cornerback may begin in 2024. While younger players like Rickey Gibson and Jordan Matthews might be the next man up, Gabe-Jeudy Lally is still a possibility to return.
