A few long-suffering Detroit Lions supporters gathered on Friday afternoon to celebrate the team’s recent success and show their support at Culligan Plaza in downtown Alpena.
The Lions need to upset the No. 1 seeded San Francisco 49ers in the NFC to advance to the championship game, which will take place in Las Vegas on February 11. The victory would send the team to its first-ever Super Bowl.
Detroit defeated the Los Angeles Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Ford Field in Detroit to get to the big game this season and win the NFC North with a 12-5 record.
Lions supporters have endured misery for a long time, including a 2008 season without a victory.
The club will make it to the championship game of 2023–2024 and hang its first-ever Super Bowl banner in the Ford Field rafters, the Alpena supporters, who were called to the plaza by a News reporter on Friday night, were worried yet optimistic.
Before the Super Bowl era, in 1958, the year after the Lions won their last championship, Bob Case attended his first Lions game at the old Briggs Stadium. That game took place outside in the bitter cold during a snowfall.
Case claimed that since then, the squad has had many years of poor performance and even more years of mediocrity with at least one or two standout players.
Case stated that he thinks about his father because of the team’s accomplishment this year. Although he claimed that it would have been practically difficult for him to attend more games over the years, he did mention that a few years back his kids had taken him to a Thanksgiving game.
Case remarked, “This whole thing has really made me think about my dad.” The Lions were never terrific, but it’s not like they were constantly awful. On Sunday, I have to give them a chance. It is a fantastic tale, and it has been a wonderful year.
Paul Lechner currently resides near Hubbard Lake, but he was raised in Indianapolis. He claimed to have been a longtime Lions supporter and to have seen the team’s highs and lows, as well as the poor calls, terrible breaks, and penalties the team has faced over the years.
He attributes the team’s success to head coach Dan Campbell and stated that the Lions have a genuine opportunity to advance to Vegas provided their defence can flex but not break and limit the 49ers’ scoring opportunities.
