Detroit Lions Highest Paid Player Jared Goff Suspended For Allegedly Involving In A player is usually held to extremely high standards whenever they are taken in the first round of the NFL Draft. Nonetheless, this makes sense because first-round selections are held for the incoming prospects who have the most chance of having an influence on the league.
The Rams, who were still based in St. Louis, made the decision to select former LSU defensive end Michael Brockers with their 14th overall first-round pick in 2012.
Well, Brockers has declared his retirement from the NFL after 11 years of service. The veteran defensive tackle for the Rams and Detroit Lions announced his news via a recent Instagram post.
Brockers immediately made an impact in the center of the Rams’ defensive line during his rookie campaign. The Rams’ run defense went from ranking 31st in the NFL in 2011 to 15th in the league in 2012, all thanks to their best rookie.
In 13 appearances during his rookie season, Brockers ended with 31 tackles (seven for a loss), four sacks, and one forced fumble. Following up his first season in 2013, he recorded 46 tackles, 5.5 yards.
Brockers’ career with the Rams and Lions was still highly respectable, but he never did become one of the league’s superstars.
He played in at least 16 games in seven of his eleven NFL seasons. He finished every year with at least 50 tackles and one sack from 2017 to 2021. During his time with the Rams, he was just one of several reliable players on a defense that included Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey, Marcus Peters, Robert Quinn, and Leonard Floyd.
