Dan Campbell Files Divorce Against Wife To Dissolve 12 Years Marriage For Allegedly Involving In, In a sensational transaction with the Los Angeles Rams in March 2021, the Lions acquired Goff in exchange for Matthew Stafford. In exchange for taking on Goff’s contract, Detroit also received a first-round draft pick from the Rams.
The Rams were clearly pleased with the transaction, as Stafford went on to win a Super Bowl in his first season with the team.
Detroit just had its best season in thirty years under Goff’s leadership. The Lions achieved both their first playoff victory since January 1992 and their first division title in thirty years in 2023.
Goff nearly punched the Lions’ ticket to the Super Bowl as he led Detroit all the way to the NFC Championship Game. Recall that Detroit led the San Francisco 49ers 24–7 at the half, but in the latter two quarters, they unraveled completely.
During the regular season, Goff completed 65.3 percent of his passes for 4,575 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He also recorded a passer rating of 97.9. This is the 29-year-old’s second straight impressive year; in 2022, he made the Pro Bowl after finishing with 4,438 yards, 29 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while completing 65.1 percent of his passes for a 99.3 passer rating.
This was all after a fairly unremarkable rookie season in Detroit in 2021. Now, largely due to Goff’s performance, the Lions are regarded by many as the second-best team in the NFC behind the 49ers going into 2024.
