In addition to talking about his long-term future at Manchester City, Pep Guardiola has acknowledged that he will speak with his family before agreeing to a new contract.
The manager of City wants him to sign an extension as soon as possible because his current contract will keep him at the Etihad until the conclusion of the following season. Jurgen Klopp, Guardiola’s longtime adversary for the title, has announced he will leave his position as Liverpool manager at the conclusion of the current season.
Guardiola’s example will be closely watched by all at the Etihad, but the City manager has stated he will evaluate his relationship with his players before deciding whether to follow through. When asked about the matter, he declined to say whether or not he would sign another contract.
Guardiola told reporters, “We have to see how players are behaving and whether we are keeping our standards.” Nine seasons in a year is a long period, and it will happen next year. It is not the same to extend after two years as it is after nine. We have a lot of time [to decide]. However, I feel great right now.”
Guardiola has agreed to three extensions, which will take effect in 2018, 2020, and 2022, since his appointment in 2016. He continued by saying that the former Barcelona manager talks things over with his closest and dearest whenever it comes time to devote his future to City.
“Usually, I make a snap judgement while deciding whether to prolong my contract. My family is involved, and I rely on my instincts and sentiments. It doesn’t take long for them [City] to provide [a fresh deal] each time. When I feel good and they want me, then everything is alright.”
Regardless of who leads them, Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou is adamant that he does not see Manchester City or Liverpool failing in the upcoming years.
Liverpool, the current leaders of the Premier League, will end City’s hegemony in 2020 after they have won five of the previous six titles.
After nine years in England, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will leave Anfield at the end of the current campaign, while City manager Pep Guardiola will do the same for the following year.
Postecoglou has stated time and time again that he wants Spurs to systematically compete with the top teams in England, but he also believes that in order for that to happen, they need to constantly getting better and not wait on others to falter.
“I just don’t think you get there if that’s your only hope, waiting for the top ones to slip,” he remarked prior to his team’s Wednesday game against Brentford.
“want than hoping they make a mistake, I’d want them to be at their best and us to match or surpass them.
“It’s just not a strategy, in my opinion. More like a wish, that is.
“The other night, in Tottenham’s 1-0 FA Cup loss to City, we got a really good indicator.”
“There was definitely a gap between us and the team we were playing against, who is perhaps the finest team in the world right now.
