The 2023 season has fallen apart quickly for the Pittsburgh Steelers after two straight losses to teams with two wins. This puts them in a difficult situation. It appears that Mike Tomlin is losing his locker room, and a postseason run that was once all but assured is no longer a given.
One thing is certain, at least for the vast majority of football fans: the team must acquire a highly skilled offensive player by 2024. Since it is unlikely that Eddie Faulkner and Mike Sullivan will continue to lead past 2023, an outside candidate will most likely be appointed.
Tomlin’s hiring of coordinators on both sides of the ball has been appalling lately. Any devoted Steelers fan will go bonkers when they see names like Teryl Austin, Randy Fichtner, Matt Canada, and Keith Butler. In the event that Pittsburgh’s December collapse persists and they choose not to fire Tomlin, his employment at Pittsburgh may be preserved or he may eventually leave the Steel City with the offensive play-caller he selects in 2024.
It’s unclear if Omar Khan and Art Rooney II will help with the offensive coordinator search, but if the Washington Commanders decide to fire head coach Ron Rivera, a top candidate might suddenly become available.
Usually, the person who joins an organization as head coach is the one who makes up the coaching staff. The Commanders may decide to completely renovate their building as a result of Rivera’s firing.
