There were doubters almost immediately after the Michigan Wolverines defeated the Washington Huskies 34–13 to win the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship.
Some believe that the sign-stealing scandal that resulted in a settlement and a three-game ban for head coach Jim Harbaugh marred Michigan’s victory.
The NCAA’s investigation is still ongoing, but the Big Ten’s was wrapped up with a settlement and ban.
The Athletic reports that Baker told the media last week at the annual NCAA meeting that the Wolverines “were the better team” and “won fair and square.”
In addition, Baker supported the NCAA’s historic choice to provide the Big Ten with information and records about the current probe, allowing the conference to impose any sanctions during the season. Given how detailed the material was, Baker stated, “I don’t regret doing it because I think we would have put everyone, including Michigan, in an awful place sitting on that information.”
In order to avoid possibly tainting future games, he also mentioned how crucial it was for Michigan and the Big Ten to be able to take action before the regular season concluded. He stated, “It might affect the outcome of games, and I don’t believe, at the end of the season, that it did, and I think that’s important.”
The hosts of the Podcast of Champions, Ryan Abraham and David Woods, go analyse Washington’s 34-13 loss to Michigan in the national championship game—the last Pac-12 college football game ever—in this episode. Though Kalen DeBoer’s team finished the season with a remarkable 14-1 record in just his second season as head coach, the Wolverines’ run game and defensive front proved to be too much for the Huskies, who had a chance to capture their first national championship since 1991.
The boys analyse the action from Monday night’s game, in which UW failed to produce the big plays that helped them defeat Texas and advance to this championship match.
Ryan and Dave wrap out the show as usual by responding to emails from fans and queries from the YouTube chat.
Transfer portal season is here, and the Wildcats will be searching for players to fill a variety of positions. To decide whether the Wildcats need to add a player or two, we will run a series for each position.
Because the Wildcats have a solid room to start with and are losing a few players, running back is one of the more intriguing offensive positions.
