Lugard Edokpayi’s recruitment did not heat up until late September, and Michigan was one of the final schools to make an offer.
He made official visits to Minnesota, Rutgers, Maryland, and Michigan, and the Forestville (Md.) Bishop McNamara edge climbed to No. 247 on Monday.
He is now a member of Michigan’s class. He just stated his decision.

“They have a plan for him in terms of the stuff they do with their defence,” said Bishop McNamara coach Greg Calhoun. “I think he fits the position they’re looking for him perfectly.” He has length and range, as well as the potential to develop into something extremely spectacular. He’s still in his infancy. Right now, he’s simply a giant ball of clay.”
The 6-foot-6, 230-pound Edokpayi is the nation’s No. 12 edge and No. 169 player, and his on-field performance coincides with his focus on football after a brief stint as a basketball player.

“His mental frame of mind shifted,” Calhoun explained. “From his junior year on, he just gave himself a chance.” We were able to introduce him to coaches, show them the frame, and tell them to keep a watch on this person.”He displayed his twitch as he moved through his junior year and recorded several things. That was the most important thing. He got on screen and made plays with his length.”
