CONGRATULATIONS: J.J. McCarthy is reward with the “GOAT” title

Many reacted negatively to the claim, citing Tom Brady’s previous position as quarterback at Michigan. Brady, though, concurred with Harbaugh, saying, “Go Blue!!!” Without a doubt!,” said Adam Schefter.

On paper, the declaration seems bold, but it’s not that bold. Brady didn’t really get the chance to be Michigan’s best quarterback, even though he is undoubtedly the best NFL quarterback to come out of Michigan. Brady had to put in extra effort to secure the starting position over Drew Henson. He eventually went 20-5 and completed 61.9% of his throws for 4,773 yards with 30 touchdowns and 17 interceptions throughout his brilliant college career when he got it.

McCarthy, on the other hand, has the best record of any quarterback for Michigan, with a 26-1 record in his starting career. McCarthy has completed 67.9% of his throws for 6,086 yards with 49 touchdowns and 11 interceptions during his time with the Wolverines. From their time at Michigan, McCarthy essentially outperforms Brady in every statistical area. McCarthy may further cemented this advantage with a national title win.

If he chooses to rejoin the Wolverines in 2024, he can further cemented his legacy in Michigan football history. McCarthy is presently sixth in passing yards and fourth in career passing touchdowns. With one more season, he may at least move up the list.
