Born on January 18, 1994, Max Dorian Fried (/ˈfriːd/ FREED) is an American pitcher who plays Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Atlanta Braves.[1] Fried made his major league debut in 2017 after being selected seventh overall in the first round of the 2012 San Diego Padres draft. His seven victories in 2020 tied him for second place in the National League, while his 17 victories in 2019 tied him for second place. In the decisive game of the 2021 World Series between the Braves and the Houston Astros, Fried pitched six shut-out innings, contributing to the Braves’ first World Series victory in 26 years.[2] With a.705 lifetime win-loss % through 2023, Fried led all Braves pitchers in this category.

Fried was the winner of both the Fielding Bible Award and the NL Gold Glove Award for pitcher in 2020. He became the third pitcher in MLB history to win both the Gold Glove Award and the Silver Slugger Award for pitchers in the same year in 2021. During those two years, he was also selected for the All-MLB Team. He was chosen an All Star and took home the Gold Glove Award for pitching for the third time in a row in 2022.

Born and raised in Santa Monica, California, Fried is a Jewish man and the middle child of Carrie and Jonathan Fried.Jake, his younger brother, was a pitcher who played at the University of Arizona [3][4][5].[6] At the age of seven, Max started going to the Reggie Smith Baseball Academy in Encino, California, where the former outfielder taught him how to throw a curveball.[7] Fried was a pitcher for the USA Juniors baseball team that earned a gold medal in Israel in the 2009 Maccabiah Games.
