When Cody Rhodes makes his WrestleMania selection, The Rock isn’t happy.
Cody Rhodes made it obvious that he planned to conclude his tale with Roman Reigns on the Grandest Stage of Them All as he pointed directly at Reigns after winning the men’s Royal Rumble battle.
On the SmackDown program airing on February 2, Rhodes, however, informed Reigns that he would not be pursuing him at WrestleMania and set up a confrontation between Reigns and The Rock.
According to reports, Rhodes forewarned WWE that the SmackDown segment will face backlash, and sure enough, Monday Night Raw and NXT Vengeance Day witnessed cries of “Rocky sucks.”
World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins entered the ring and spoke to the crowd during the much-awaited WrestleMania 40 Press Conference in Las Vegas. Cody Rhodes, the two-time winner of the Royal Rumble, was called out by Rollins, who stated it was time to make a main event. However, Rhodes was not the one who approached Rollins directly. Rather, the theme music of Roman Reigns filled the T-Mobile Arena, and Rollins made a joke about Roman choosing to come to work today.
Reigns referred to Rhodes as “the man who can’t make his own decision” and said that the Tribal Chief will select the opponent for WrestleMania’s main event, taking away Rhodes’ authority. He made a strong declaration.
The Great One himself emerged at this point and was met with thunderous jeers by the assembled audience. When Rock questioned the audience if they believed Reigns would defeat him at WrestleMania, he got a mixed response. The jeers became louder when he questioned if he would defeat The Tribal Chief, and phrases like “We want Cody” and “Rocky sucks” started to be uttered. More resistance from the audience followed when Rock questioned if he and Roman Reigns would be the biggest main event in WWE history.
The Rock attempted to go on, but the opposing yells of “We want Cody” and “Rocky sucks” got louder. Rock welcomed everyone, both in person and virtually, and then made reference to the “Cody crybabies” he had coined earlier that day on the Pat McAfee Show.
After that, Rock revealed a Bloodline family tree that displayed the esteemed ancestry of the Samoan wrestling dynasty. He said that The Rock vs. Roman Reigns will be the greatest main event in WrestleMania history and that it wouldn’t matter what people thought if they couldn’t see that there is only one dominant royal family in wrestling.
As a result, Cody Rhodes himself had to step in and clarify that since he had won the Royal Rumble, he and Roman should not have chosen the main event. Declaring that he had made up his mind, Rhodes said: He chose Roman Reigns
Rhodes was last year’s news, Reigns mocked, adding that no one is interested in his tale. Like Dusty Rhodes, his late father, he described Rhodes as an insignificant embarrassment to his entire family.
With a backhand, Rhodes questioned Reigns’ family remarks, saying: How’s Jay?
Following a physical altercation between the two men, Triple H was approached by The Rock backstage, who instructed him to “fix it.” Triple H stated on social media that Rhodes will take on Reigns on the Grandest Stage of Them All, disregarding Rock’s caution.
