The Chicago Cubs formally unveiled their minor league coaching staffs and coordinators for the 2024 campaign today.
For the twelfth season in a row, Marty Pevey will return to manage the Iowa Cubs, continuing a record-setting stint and setting a team record with 680 victories. He has over thirty years of professional experience, having played for thirteen seasons before beginning his sixteenth season in the organisation. Pevey’s total minor league managing record is 1,324–1,354, and through 2023, his 1,324 victories rank ninth among all active minor league skippers.
After two seasons as the South Bend manager, Lance Rymel is in his first season as the Tennessee Smokies’ manager. He led the South Bend Cubs of 2022 to the Midwest League championship. He has managed Single-A Eugene in addition to serving as a coach or manager with the Cubs organisation for nine seasons.
The South Bend Cubs are starting a new manager in Nick Lovullo. He joined the team in 2022 as Tennessee’s bench coach, and in 2023 he managed the Mesa Cubs of the Arizona Complex League. He was an infielder for six seasons, mostly with the Red Sox organisation from 2016 to 20 and the Marlins development system in 2021. He is Torey Lovullo’s son, the manager of the Diamondbacks.
Buddy Bailey, who is in his 36th season as a minor league manager, will rejoin the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. With 2,355 regular season wins, Bailey ranks third all-time among minor league managers and has the most of any active manager. He led the Pelicans to the Carolina League playoffs in 2023 for the second straight year.
