Ken Dorsey was hired by the Cleveland Browns on Monday to serve as their offensive coordinator. Dorsey takes Alex Van Pelt’s position; Van Pelt was fired a few days after the Browns were humiliated 45-14 by the Houston Texans in the NFL wild-card round on January 13. The Buffalo Bills benched Dorsey in the middle of the season.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski stated in a release that Ken “has worked with and elevated some of the top quarterbacks in this league and will bring a fresh approach to our offence.” “Having been one of the most successful college quarterbacks in history, he has a great understanding of what it takes to succeed in that role and has utilised that knowledge to become an excellent coach.” He was once a member of this team.

“We’ll get there,” Stefanski, a former offensive coordinator, said on Monday. “It’s February 5th.” Dorsey joked at Monday’s press conference that the Browns’ process of hiring him was deliberate and meticulous. “It was darn near like a root canal to get the job,” Dorsey said. The 42-year-old Dorsey spent two of his four seasons as an NFL quarterback with the Browns from 2006 and 2008. In 2019 he took the same position with the Carolina Panthers. In 2021 he was renamed offensive coordinator.

Last Thursday, the New England Patriots hired Van Pelt to be their offensive coordinator. The Browns also declared the hiring of defensive line coach Jacques Cesaire, running backs coach Duce Staley, and tight ends/pass-game specialty coach Tommy Rees. In addition, Bill Callahan, the offensive line coach, will need to be replaced by the team. It is anticipated that Tennessee would hire him to work under his son, Brian Callahan, who was recently chosen head coach of the Titans.
