West Indies Vs USA Match Scheduled For 22 June Is Postponed Due Too Despite Afghanistan’s progress to the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 stage, head coach Jonathan Trott stated his dissatisfaction with the team’s batting after a crushing loss to the West Indies in their last group-stage encounter.
Afghanistan had three straight victories to start the tournament off well, but Tuesday’s crushing 104-run loss to the West Indies put a stop to their hopes.
Afghanistan’s success in Group C was highlighted by noteworthy triumphs against Papua New Guinea and Uganda, as well as a crucial victory over New Zealand that eliminated the Kiwis from the competition. Due to their early success, the squad finished first in their group and had a strong net run rate, which guaranteed them a spot in the Super 8 alongside the biggest names in cricket.
Trott emphasized the team’s problems with both batting and bowling in his reflections on the team’s recent loss to the West Indies. Alright, those are the things we need to focus on, along with simply being able to pull overs. Trott stated at the press conference following the game, “Being able to get out of an over and try and stop that if we don’t start an over well.”
The Rashid Khan-led team needed to tighten their bowling and increase their batting depth after this defeat, which acted as a wake-up call.
“Today, we completed two overs totaling sixty runs, which drastically changes the momentum of the game.” That eases a lot of the strain on the following eighteen overs, but that’s the black and white of the game as it is in reality. And yes, I’m disappointed in the batting, and I wish we could have gotten a little bit closer,” he remarked.
Afghanistan’s first Super 8 match is scheduled for June 20 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, against a strong Indian team. In T20Is, Afghanistan has never fared well against India; earlier this year, the Men in Blue won a three-match series with complete ease.
