We look back at Tavierre Dunlap’s journey to join the Wolverines and speculate about what his 2022 season might hold as the running back prepares to enter his sophomore year at Michigan.
Dunlap attended Del Valle High School in his hometown of Del Valle, Texas, during his high school football career. Dunlap had an outstanding junior season in high school, running for over 1,300 yards and 20 touchdowns. Due to his exceptional play, 247Sports ranked him as the No. 20 overall running back in his class and awarded him a three-star recruiting ranking.
Dunlap received offers from other Big 12 colleges in the area, but Mike Gundy and Oklahoma State in particular showed a lot of interest. Along with several Big Ten colleges like Michigan State and Nebraska, he received offers from Pac-12 schools like USC. Dunlap had a Notre Dame offer as well. Having made an impressive list, Michigan was his final choice.
Having Donovan Edwards, Blake Corum, and Hassan Haskins in the running back room with him made it understandable why Dunlap didn’t get much field action in his first season. Dunlap made two appearances and 51 yards on seven ball carries.
Dunlap did make the highlight reel for the Blue team’s spring game when he scored a touchdown by running.
With Haskins gone, Dunlap should be able to see the field a little more this season, but Edwards and Corum will undoubtedly be the primary backs in 2022. Dunlap, though, will probably be close after them. When Michigan wins big against weaker opponents, he ought to be on the field. Additionally, he ought to be the next man up if something were to happen to a starter—please, universe, do not allow this to occur.
