According to numerous sources, Nick Saban is retiring after 28 seasons as an FBS head coach with a 292-71-1 record and seven national championships.

Last week, in the Rose Bowl, head coach Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines denied Nick Saban a record-tying eighth national championship, bringing an epic finale to Saban’s career.

It was an exciting game, with Michigan rallying from a 20–13 hole to win 27–20 in overtime. After an amazing run by Michigan running back Blake Corum gave the team the lead in overtime, the Michigan defence put up a fantastic goal-line stand to stop Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe to seal the victory.

Alabama would sit at home and consider retirement as Michigan went on to defeat Washington on Monday to win the national championship. It now seems that Saban’s deliberation is over, as some stories suggest he is resigning.

The fact that Saban’s extraordinary career came to an end in a defeat to the Wolverines adds even more dramatic and historic significance to Michigan’s championship run; his retirement is now a part of the program’s history. Even though practically every analyst and talking head had Alabama and Nick Saban as favourites, Michigan slayed the beast and proved they could defeat the SEC powerhouse Crimson Tide team. Nick, see you later.

The illustrious college football coach guided Michigan to a 12-0 campaign and a Rose Bowl victory over Washington State in 1997, which earned the team a share of the national championship and the top spot in the Associated Press Top-25 poll. The Wolverines would no longer be regarded as the best team in college football at that point.

That is, until Monday night, when the Jim Harbaugh-led Michigan Wolverines, who finished 15-0 and won the College Football Playoff national title in Houston, defeated Washington 34-13 to cap off their own perfect season.

Carr attended the game at NRG Stadium and stayed in Houston for the annual Paul “Bear” Bryant Awards ceremony on Wednesday, where he received a lifetime achievement award in recognition of his accomplishments as the former national coach of the year.
