In an instant gratification society, everything must happen right away for individuals to feel at ease.
The Chicago Cubs have done nothing to ensure that people walk out of this summer believing that they can become a National League contender, as ownership and the front management predicted after missing the playoffs by one game last year.

However, in the big scheme of things, there is still time for the Cubs to add the essential components to enhance their squad, and one of those transactions appears to be imminent.

“The Chicago Cubs are in talks with agent Scott Boras about signing free-agent first baseman Rhys Hoskins,” USA TODAY’s Bob Nightengale reports.
The former Philadelphia Phillies slugger suffered a ruptured ACL during Spring Training in 2023, forcing him to miss the full season. They let him go in free agency when Bryce Harper demonstrated his ability to play first base at a high level.
After rotating various players at first base during the season, Chicago is in need of a first baseman. The front office apparently wants an everyday player, which Hoskins might offer.

He also has the power bat they’re searching for.
Since becoming a full-time Major Leaguer in 2018, Hoskins has hit 34, 29, 27, and 30 homers with at least 70 RBI per year and a career OPS+ of 125, barring the COVID-shortened 2020 season.
This would not be a blockbuster move, especially with questions surrounding his performance coming off a significant injury, but Hoskins will add value to this club and fill a crucial position of need.
