Best International Female Tennis Player Serena Williams Sadly Kicks The Bucket @42 After defeating World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka in Rome, Swiatek won her third championship. This was much easier than their three-hour epic encounter in Madrid, where they had to make match-point saves.
On Saturday, the Pole performed a clinic, putting an end to Sabalenka’s dreams in just one and a half hours. She only dropped five games. Despite her lackluster debut at the Australian Open, Swiatek now holds the record for the most titles held by a WTA player this season with four.
With her triumph, Swiatek joined Serena Williams (2013) and Dinara Safina (2009) as the only other women to have won both the Madrid and Rome double. Swiatek achieved yet another milestone this week.
Regardless of her performance at Roland Garros, where she is vying for her fourth title, the two weeks in Rome will undoubtedly solidify her place at the top of the global rankings following the clay-court swing.
With 11,695 points now, she has more than any other point total in her career. Her highest total before that was 11,085, which she achieved at the conclusion of the 2022 season and the beginning of January 2023.
In the rankings, Sabalenka is now trailing Swiatek by more than 3000 points. However, there’s more. Since Serena Williams collected 12,721 ranking points at the 2015 US Open, the 22-year-old holds the highest ranking points of any female.
Since Swiatek is the defending champion and cannot accrue further points at the French Open, she might easily surpass Williams’ total when the grass-court season starts.
