AWFUL NEWS: ESPN’s Rece Davis “regrets” not getting in touch with Jim Harbaugh to enquire about his….

The future of Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh is one of the biggest stories in college football this summer.

Following Michigan’s victory over the Washington Huskies 34–13 in the College Football Playoff National Championship on January 8, Harbaugh has been thinking about his future and whether he would prefer to stay at Michigan or return to the NFL, most likely as head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. Harbaugh led Michigan to its first national championship in a quarter of a century.

Soon after the win, Harbaugh was interviewed by ESPN’s Rece Davis. Although the coach was asked about his future, he largely sidestepped the subject and focused on the here and now.

This week, Davis and colleague ESPNer Pete Thamel co-host The College GameDay Podcast. In the episode, Davis talked about the interview and expressed his remorse for not following up with a question.

As reported by Barrett Sports Media’s Jordan Bondurant, Davis remarked, “It wasn’t like he walked in there going, ‘I’ve done my job, and now I can’t wait to get back to the NFL.” “His response was essentially the epitome of what Harbaugh stood for.”

Davis struggled because he knew that if he explicitly asked Harbaugh if he intended to leave Michigan, he would not respond. Davis would therefore need to come up with something original; this was something that just occurred to him after the interview.

You always leave a question unanswered, and I simply missed this one. I regretted not asking the follow-up question, “What would it take to get you to leave Michigan?” as I considered it. Davis continued. “I wish I had asked it that way; it’s a pretty basic question that I missed.”

Even though Davis didn’t think Harbaugh would respond, he still thought Davis ought to have asked.

The Ohio State Buckeyes had a rough start to the 2023 college football season as they lost to the Missouri Tigers in the Cotton Bowl and ended the regular season with a loss to the Michigan Wolverines. However, Ohio State added a significant member to their staff, which they will surely hope will benefit the squad going into the upcoming season.

The Ohio State Buckeyes formally announced Bill O’Brien’s hiring as their new offensive coordinator on Friday morning. Before joining the Patriots this season as their offensive coordinator, O’Brien was the offensive coordinator for the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2021 and 2022. He has also held head coaching positions with the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Houston Texans.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said on Friday, “I am very pleased to be able to add Bill O’Brien to our coaching staff,” according to Eleven Warriors. “He brings with him an abundance of experience from both the NFL and collegiate ranks, as well as a great deal of success. Over his tenure, he has developed some genuinely exceptional players and run NFL and Power 5 programmes. He is an excellent and seasoned offensive coach. He strengthens our personnel and will be a great teacher and recruiter for us.
