Like many fans of the Los Angeles Lakers, Anthony Davis is also furious over his rejection as a DPOY finalist.
The NBA revealed this year’s Defensive Player of the Year Award candidates on Sunday night, and Lakers star Anthony Davis was noticeably left off of the list. The three finalists chosen ahead of Davis were Victor Wembanyama of San Antonio, Bam Adebayo of Miami, and Rudy Gobert of Minnesota.
When discussing the rejection with reporters on Monday, Davis launched into a tirade suggesting that the NBA was biased against him.
“I’ve moved on,” declared Davis. “I’m just going to attempt to compete for a title and do what I have to do to help the team win. Individual honors and recognition, I’m over those.
It’s true that Davis, who has played in the NBA for 12 years without winning DPOY, had a very productive season defensively. With a career-high 76 appearances, he was the focal point of almost every defensive move the Lakers made, especially when wing stoppers like Jarred Vanderbilt and Cam Reddish were sidelined for prolonged periods of time due to injuries.
