Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum announced Ethan Lege as a finalist for the 2024 Ferris Trophy on Tuesday afternoon. Lege has been a bright spot in an inconsistent season for the Ole Miss Rebels.
Lege is one of five contenders for the Ferris Trophy, which is given to the best baseball player in the state of Mississippi each year. The other four competitors are Dakota Jordan of Mississippi State, Dalton McIntyre of Southern Miss, Brett Sanchez of Belhaven, and RJ Stinson of William Carey.
Lege has led Ole Miss in batting average thus far this season with a.323 average in 43 games. In addition, he leads the team in hits (50), home runs (13), total bases (100), slugging percentage (.645), and on-base percentage (.424).
Lege’s drawback is that he did not play in the Rebels’ series victory over the Auburn Tigers last weekend and is currently out with a fractured thumb from being hit by a pitch on the hand last week.
“He wants to play, he’s a tough kid,” Bianco stated when meeting with the media. “After the injury, it is too soon. The thumb is still very swollen, and the hand is bloated. It is hoped that as the swelling reduces, he will be able to swing while wearing a brace or splint.”
Ole Miss will play host to the Murray State Racers on Wednesday night before returning to action this weekend to meet the Texas A&M Aggies in conference play. On May 20, at the Golden Moon Casino in Choctaw, Mississippi, a luncheon and program will be held in honor of the five Ferris Trophy finalists and their coaches.
