J.J. Watt, a defensive wunderkind, and some Houston Texans supporters hinted this spring that Watt would come out of retirement to play again later this year.
Although Watt appears happy in retirement, he isn’t quite closing the door on making a significant comeback to the field between this September and Super Bowl LIX.
While playing for the Texans from 2011 to the 2020 season, Watt was nominated for five first-team All-Pro teams and won three NFL Defensive Player of the Year Awards. Before he retired in early 2023, he played for the Arizona Cardinals for two seasons. However, he made hints this past winter about considering a late-season move to the Pittsburgh Steelers or the Houston Texans.
T.J. Watt, Watt’s brother, is a standout pass-rusher for the Pittsburgh Steelers. This year’s postseason tournament included Pittsburgh and Houston.
During Wednesday’s program segment, J.J. Watt said, “I don’t think people understand how much stuff would have to happen for that scenario to play itself out.”
