Pat Murphy was unsure about his chances of ever managing again. It was definitely not what he expected to happen in Milwaukee. However, on Thursday, he was wearing a Brewers jersey during the team’s inaugural news conference—his first managerial opportunity since 2015. The Brewers announced the previous day that former second baseman Rickie Weeks had been promoted to deputy manager and that Murphy had signed a three-year contract. Murphy remarked, “You realise how fortunate you are to be a part of something.” “It’s amazing what we have growing here.” It’s not where I expected it to be. These things occur, and then I find myself here. Murphy, who will turn 65 on November 28, has managed teams for thirty years.
