ATLANTA — Following their interview with Brian Johnson, the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, for the head coaching position on Thursday, the Atlanta Falcons are scheduled to meet with Bill Belichick again.
On Monday, Belichick conducted his first-ever interview with the Falcons following his departure from the New England Patriots. Belichick spent 24 seasons with New England, winning a record six Super Bowls. He will be the first applicant to meet with Atlanta for a follow-up interview.
The facts of the second discussion with Belichick, 71, have not been made public by the organisation.
The Falcons are searching for a replacement for Arthur Smith, who was let go following three consecutive 7-10 finishes.
Belichick has 333 wins overall, second only to Hall of Famer Don Shula’s 347, including the playoffs. He won 17 division championships with the Patriots.
The Falcons and Belichick have scheduled a second meeting, which suggests that, should he accept the position, they have reached a consensus over Belichick’s potential input with player personnel decisions. Belichick was in charge of New England’s player roster.
The Falcons’ CEO Rich McKay and owner Arthur Blank are in charge of the coaching hunt. Blank recently stated that while the new coach and general manager Terry Fontenot will report to McKay, Fontenot would still be in charge of personnel choices.
For the 2023 campaign, Johnson moved up from offensive coordinator to quarterbacks coach. He started working for the Eagles in 2021.
After Brian Callahan of Cincinnati, Johnson is the second offensive coordinator to interview with Atlanta.
Jim Harbaugh, the Michigan coach, was questioned by the Falcons on Tuesday.
The Falcons announced on Thursday that Johnson’s interview was conducted virtually. The Eagles’ season came to an end on Monday as they lost to Tampa Bay 32-9 in an NFC wild-card game. Until Sunday, when the divisional playoffs come to a finish, any interviews with staff members of rival teams must take place virtually.
Johnson had ten years of experience as a collegiate coach, three of them years spent at Florida from 2018 to 20 before joining the Eagles staff. In 2020, he oversaw the offensive strategy for the Gators.
The Falcons have interviewed eight coaches total, including Johnson.
Additional applicants for virtual interviews with Atlanta include defensive line coach and associate head coach Anthony Weaver of the Baltimore Ravens, defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero of Carolina, defensive coordinator Steve Wilks of San Francisco, and defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald of Baltimore.
The Atlanta Braves and Diamond Baseball Holdings, the owner of the minor league team, made the announcement earlier this month that the AA affiliate, which is presently based in Pearl, Mississippi, will be moving to Columbus, Georgia, starting in 2025.

The job description explains why the organisation wants the selected candidate to start working with the new team early in the relocation process in order to help establish the organisational structure.
DBH is seeking a “strong Assistant General Manager or General Manager” with demonstrated management and ticket sales expertise, according to the job description. The requirements state that candidates must exhibit “major” skill in sales and marketing; ballpark management is categorised as a “minor” in the same sense as a collegiate minor is a supplementary area of study.
