But Jeremy Pruitt, the Tennessee head coach at the time, made the decision to take a different approach following a coaching change at Tennessee a few weeks prior to early national signing day. A few days before ENSD, Penix announced his departure from the Vols on Twitter. Penix committed to the University of Indiana, where he showed promise but had numerous setbacks prior to moving to Washington.

The reality is that, to be perfectly honest, after watching the tape, we all felt that, even at the age of seventeen, he wasn’t talented enough. Science isn’t perfect. Tyler Baron, a defensive end, had numerous premium suitors when he first accessed the transfer site on December 8. He made the swift decision to move to Oxford, Mississippi, to play for the Ole Miss Rebels alongside his old teammate Tamarion McDonald. But a few weeks later, Mcdonald renounced his vow and switched his allegiance to the Louisville Cardinals, and now Baron has made the same decision.
Baron had 28 tackles, six sacks, and a fumble recovery in 2023, which made him a huge bright spot for the Vols. After James Pearce Jr., he was their second-best pass rusher and provided them with significant momentum at a number of pivotal moments.
