Despite being the busiest baseball team this offseason, the Los Angeles Dodgers aren’t preventing themselves from making more acquisitions. The most recent rumours, though, indicate that a trade will not be made despite the team’s interest in Dylan Cease, a pitcher for the Chicago White Sox.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Dodgers are no longer as interested in Cease as they were before Yoshinobu Yamamoto was added to the team. Furthermore, Dylan Cease’s signing with Los Angeles might have been finalised by the Michael Busch trade with the Chicago Cubs.
“Before trading infielder Michael Busch to the Chicago Cubs, the Dodgers included him in some of their offers to the White Sox for Cease, according to sources briefed on the discussions. Cease piqued the Dodgers’ interest more before they signed right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto from Japan. After that, they kept in contact with the White Sox, but their deal with the Cubs suggested they were searching for long-term value.
Dylan Cease is certainly not a teammate that the Dodgers need, but since they are essentially an All-Star team right now, why wouldn’t they make a deal for him? However, at this time it also makes sense for LA to concentrate on bringing in fresh young talent.
Regarding Cease, it appears that the White Sox are still thinking about dealing him. Rosenthal feels that the Baltimore Orioles would be a good place for the elite pitcher to settle down. It would be a wise decision for Baltimore and Chicago to trade numerous prospects for a classic star veteran. Spring Training doesn’t start for several weeks yet.
