Reasons to crown Micah Parsons NFL Defensive Player of the Year

After winning on Thursday night, the Cowboys will have a short break to recuperate and get ready for their December schedule, which includes games against a number of teams fighting for postseason berths in both conferences.

Naturally, it helps that Dallas’s players are right now performing at an extremely high level and out of their minds. Dak Prescott, the quarterback, is currently at the forefront of those conversations and keeps coming up as a possible league MVP. Take Prescott’s recent recognition as the NFC Offensive Player of the Month for November as proof that things might turn out well for him in the end.

Remarkably, cornerback DaRon Bland of the Cowboys won the NFC’s Offensive and Defensive Players of the Month awards for November after he recorded about 100 pick sixes in a 30-day span (at least it seemed that way). Actually, Micah Parsons took home the trophy in September, making Bland the second Cowboys player to receive it this year.

Furthermore, it appears that the Browns will be heading south quickly, as reports indicate that veteran quarterback Joe Flacco will start for Cleveland on Sunday. It’s an unfair part of the process, but generally speaking, players who win awards like this one have to be on teams that are either playoff-caliber or are performing well, and Parsons is clearly on one while Garrett might not be.

This kind of thing keeps guys like DeMarcus Ware from receiving the proper DPOY awards, which Ware more than merited in 2008. I don’t feel resentful about that now at all.

However, the current chances indicate that the Cowboys could be able to field the DPOY and MVP of the league on the same team, which would put them both in a position to require contract extensions in the summer.
