The Chicago Cubs’ organisation saw numerous changes this offseason, beginning with the departure of Craig Breslow, deputy general manager/vice president of pitching.
Following that, they decided to fire manager David Ross and recruit Craig Counsell.
This resulted in numerous front office members changing roles and new coaches joining Counsell’s staff. According to reports, all posts have now been filled.
The Cubs have added another player to their roster.
Matt Hinkley announced his hiring as Arizona Pitching Coordinator on his personal social media profile. He formerly worked with Cressey Sports Performance for the past two years and is the co-founder of Kansas City Strength & Conditioning.
Hinkley’s company included KC Throwing, a biomechanics, pitch design, and velocity development group.
Aside from that, not much is known about Hinkley, but he’s taking on a significant job, according to Brett Taylor of Bleacher Nation.
“Because Arizona is home to not only the Cubs’ Spring Training facilities and rookie ball club, but also where so many guys go to do rehab work, offseason work, and so on, the pitching coordinator there figures to work with, or at least have eyes on, the majority of the organisation at some point.” “This is an important job,” he writes.
Taylor also seemed to believe that this is a good hire for Chicago and what he can contribute to the team.
“The Cressey Sports Performance centre is an extremely well-regarded independent development shop, so getting someone from their organisation to join the Cubs sounds like a great move.”
The Cubs have yet to make an official announcement, but it appears they have opted to make another hire this offseason.
